Do You Consider This As Recreating or Imitating

All great things come back into style from vintage fashion, to the remakes of old movies and now the old school feel of music. Many vloggers are bringing back 80’s and 90’s hair, makeup and definitely the gear which has everyone hopping onto the band wagon. Amazing talents will never get old like India Arie or Floetry for their rhythm and rhymes , or lyricist like Nas inspiring this generations MC’s starting with J. Cole leading to Pusha t. Recently many artists have been sampling hooks, versus and melodies from 90’s music. But, the real question at hand is it imitating or recreating?

The recreating of oldies is nothing new. Artist have been doing this for years thinking back to En Vouges rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Giving him something He can Feel” our new generation has taken it all to new lengths. Although the new takes on these songs are appreciated by many, some feel that it is a lack of talent on the artist part, not necessarily paying homage to the original version. Drake wanting to do some aliyah and Kendrick Lamar sampling Janet Jackson in his amazing track poetic justice was just the beginning. Teyana Taylors sampling Ginuwine None of your friends business, as well as Chris browns having a compilation of throwback on his album

Honestly music is made to evolve but keeping the feel of the music that a lot of people grew up listening to and loving really paints a picture of what’s to come in the music industry. I personally welcome everything back from the 8 ball jackets, hightops and dope street art, recreating or reinventing will more than likely continue to happen, either way imitation is the highest form of flattery. What was hot then will be relevant for years to come.
